This page outlines how those with lived experience can share their story of recovery as an EDV Ambassador.

Becoming an Ambassador

EDV Ambassadors are volunteers who share their personal stories of recovery. Ambassadors can be those with personal lived experience of an eating disorder or someone who has supported a loved one with an eating disorder (e.g. a parent).

Speaking publicly about their experience provides the opportunity to raise awareness of eating disorders and to offer hope that recovery is possible.

It is a requirement of all speakers that they have lived experience as a person who has recovered from an eating disorder or cared for someone who has recovered. The lived experience must also be recent (within approximately five years).  For those who have recovered, we recommend a two-year recovery period.

Engage an Ambassador

EDV Ambassadors who have recovered from an eating disorder or who have cared for someone who has recovered are available to share their lived experience in a variety of settings.

Our Ambassadors aim to educate and raise awareness of eating disorders and offer hope and inspiration that recovery is possible for everyone.

Role of the Speaker

There is increasing recognition that lived experience is valuable both as a source of support for people with eating disorders, and as a tool to improve education around the prevention and early intervention of eating disorders. Ambassadors are trained and supported to share their lived experience, answer questions and express opinions from their particular perspective.

There are a variety of settings in which people can share their experience including:

  • Online trainings, webinar and events
  • Hospital Visiting Program – inpatient, day patient & out patient
  • Media Enquiries
  • Community Awareness Events
  • Education Workshops
  • Professional Development Sessions
  • Co-design projects

Cost

There is a fee of $155 for compensation to the Ambassador for giving up their time to present. This covers a one hour speaking session with the Ambassador who is accompanied with an EDV support staff.
