EDV Psychology | Eating Disorders Victoria
Home Our Services EDV Psychology

EDV offers private psychology sessions for people experiencing eating disorders and related issues, as well as for family and friends who are supporting a loved one.

Sessions are currently available in Abbotsford and all of our psychologists have expertise in the field of eating disorders.

Who is EDV Psychology for?

Anyone who wants to change their relationship with food and their body. Whether you are experiencing difficulties for the first time or noticing a return to old patterns of thought and behaviour, our psychologists can work with you to overcome these challenges and live a happy and healthy life. EDV Psychology is also suitable for carers who need support to manage their own mental health during this time.

Do I need a diagnosis?

No. You are welcome to access EDV Psychology without a formal diagnosis.

How do I make an appointment?
  1. Call our Helpline on 1300 550 236 or
  2. Complete our online form and we will get in touch with you to discuss an appointment.
Who will I see?

We have a number of registered psychologists who are experienced in supporting people with eating disorders, and will match you with someone who best suits your needs.

How many sessions can I have?

You are welcome to attend EDV Psychology for as long as you need. However, you are only eligible to claim a Medicare rebate on a maximum of 10 individual sessions per calendar year. After the first 6 sessions, you will need to visit your doctor for a review. Once you have used up these 10 individual sessions, no further rebates are available within that calendar year. If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible for additional rebates.

How will it help me?

Our psychologists help you create sustainable changes so you can live a healthy and fulfilling life. We work collaboratively with you to develop skills and coping strategies so you have the tools to sustain positive change for recovery. We can also support parents, partners, siblings and relatives of someone with an eating disorder by making sense of what is happening and discussing strategies for self-care. Please note, EDV Psychology does not offer diagnostic services; rather we look at what is going on for you and how we can help you make changes to improve your health and wellbeing.

What are the fees?

We understand that it can be difficult to afford ongoing therapy, and our fees are lower than those recommended by the Australian Psychological Society. Fees vary from $135 to $185 per session, depending on the type of psychologist you see and whether you have a valid Health Care Card. If you have a referral from a GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of up to $84.80 per session. All consultations run for 50-60 minutes, and fees are payable at the time of appointment. We accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard. If you are claiming a rebate you will need to visit a Medicare office or upload your receipt to the Medicare app after your session.

Will my private health fund cover any of the cost?

That depends on your level of cover. Please consult your individual fund for further information.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

If you have to cancel your appointment at short notice, we are unable to offer your place to someone else. The following cancellation fees will apply:

0-24 hours notice:       Full fee payable
24-48 hours notice:     50% of fee payable

Please call EDV Reception on 1300 550 236 if you need to cancel your appointment.
