The course teaches adults how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Course participants learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

The goal of this project is to educate parents and adults who have young people in their care who are at risk or experiencing mental health issues, so they can recover and live happy and healthy lives. Mental illness impacts approximately one in seven young people, with suicide being the biggest killer of young Australians ( Educating adults about mental health issues, teaching them how to identify the signs and symptoms and having them learn how and where they can access help is important for youth wellbeing.

Participants who complete this training are will receive a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation valid for 3 years.
