Support Group Conveners

Support Group Conveners facilitate the various EDFV support groups, which take place across Victoria.

Main metro groups include Watsonia, Glen Iris and East Melbourne groups. Support Group Convenors tend to work with one type of support group – either a support group for people with an eating disorder, or one for families and friends who are caring for a loved one with an eating disorder.  We aim to have several Convenors for each group, acting on a roster system.

Like all our volunteers, applicants for the role of Support Group Convenor are interviewed and carefully selected, before participating in a comprehensive in-house training course, followed by observations and co-facilitation of approximately one group per month for at least three months.  Ongoing support, supervision, debriefing and continuing education are provided for all volunteers. Group facilitation skills, reliability and the ability to make a regular commitment are essential.  A minimum 12 month commitment applies.
