Campaign for Better Treatment Services

Eating Disorders Victoria is regularly invited to participate in key advisory committees and forums, and to provide consumer and carer representation regarding best practice in the treatment and care of people with eating disorders. EDV is always looking for people who are prepared to recount their treatment and care experience – whether inpatient or outpatient, private practice or community health based treatment.  We are interested in the experiences of both the person with an eating disorder and their carers. An option in assisting EDV’s campaign for improved treatment services includes recounting your experiences directly to public and/private forums on occasion. These discussion forums can provide an extremely powerful and evocative avenue for communicating important messages and recommendations.

Positive and negative feedback regarding treatment experiences are welcome and encouraged. EDV would like to hear about your experiences of getting a diagnosis; what treatment facilities and/or therapies were beneficial to you or your loved one; and about areas of your experience for which you would recommend change or improvement.

There are a number of ways in which you can work with EDV to assist in campaigning for improved treatment services, and your level of activity and participation would be at your own discrepancy. Common methods for campaigning include:
  • Providing a detailed, written account of your treatment experience.
  • Reporting on your experiences through speaking engagements in discussion forums to provide suggestions for improved services to government and peak bodies.
