Research Confirms Body Image Concerns of Australian Teens
In an online survey of 2,000 Australian teenagers, more than two-thirds worry about their body image and 40% have dieted. It also shows that teens can identify both the solutions and the igniters of body image pressures, highlighting the media as 43% responsible for promoting unhealthy body ideals and a further 32% believe healthy sized models as the best ambassadors for body image awareness.

Last Chance to Register for Kick Start program
If you have an eating disorder, or you know of someone who does, then EDVs Kick Start program will be an invaluable support. The program includes sessions on self esteem, body image, developing a healthy relationship with food and new ideas to aid the recovery process. The program begins on 15th February.

Paid Volunteer Opportunity with EDV - Apply Now!
The Vodafone Foundation, in collaboration with Goodcompany, will pay five successful applicants to work with the community group of their choice throughout 2010 as part of the Vodafone World of Difference Program.
Eating Disorders Victoria is encouraging prospective volunteers who are passionate about EDV's work to apply for the program. Applications must be made by individuals who nominate their selected community organisation. Applications have closed for this program.

EDV Events Announced for 2010
Following the highly successful education program of 2009, Eating Disorders Victoria will continue running both the Mindful Eating and the Body Image in Schools programs throughout 2010. Eight new events have been announced on the EDV website and will take place across 2010.

Additions to the EDV Library

Kick Start Recovery Program Commencing in Five Weeks
Now is the time to register for EDV's new Kick Start Recovery Program, commencing in February 2010. The first session is scheduled to start in 5 weeks.
The program is a whole body approach to recovery from an eating disorder for those over 18 years of age. Participants will explore how self-esteem can relate to an eating disorder. They will also learn to improve their own body image health. They will look at the relationship between body movement and eating and will also have the opportunity to share their own journey and strategies for recovery.

New Books Reviews up on EDV Website
Eating Disorders Victoria has posted six new book reviews on the website. The book titles include Why Can't I Look the Way I Want?, The Young Mind, The Beginners Guide to Eating Disorders Recovery, Girl Stuff, Living With It, Living It Up and Letting It Go and Skinny Boy and cover topics such as anxiety, eating disorders in males, body image and recovery guides.
All of the above books are available for loan through from the Eating Disorders Victoria library (borrowing from the EDV library is a member benefit only - for more information on becoming a member click here).

Tips for Coping at Christmas
Whether you are living with an eating disorder or caring for someone with an eating disorder, Christmas can complicate things and cause stress, and stress tends to worsen disordered eating behaviours and put strain on relationships.
Eating Disorders Victoria has prepared an article which addresses the difficulties associated with the Christmas period for both people experiencing an eating disorder, as well as carers, including a number of tips and coping strategies.

Albury/Wodonga Building Hope Workshop to Commence in February 2010
Eating Disorders Victoria, in partnership with Deakin University, will be holding a Building Hope workshop in Aubrey across February 2010. The workshop series will comprise of 3 x 4hr sessions over 3 weeks for Partners, Family Members, Friends and Parents of a person with an eating disorder.
This workshop builds empathy, promotes understanding, shows you how to use reflective listening skills, recognises that consistent, compassionate and calm communication assists your loved one with recovery and a collaborative problem solving approach enhances the idea that change is possible.

Direction Exploring is a Melbourne-based organisation focused on helping individuals (children, adolescents, adults), couples and families grow to greater harmony, strength, and fulfillment.
