Evaluating the Quality of Eating Disorder Treatments via Patient's Experiences and Expectations

Consumer involvement in the evaluation of eating disorder treatments has been described in the past as a neglected area of research. This study aims to address this issue by exploring patients (current and former) treatment experiences and expectations, in order to gain a better understanding of what works and what doesn't.

If you are over 18, and have ever received treatment for an eating disorder you are invited to complete a 15-20 minute online survey.  Participation is anonymous and completely voluntary, and you do not have to answer all of the questions if you do not wish to. At the end of the survey, participants may choose to enter a draw to win one of two $30 Myers vouchers.

If you would like more information, or are interested in participating, please click here.

Are you pregnant? Share your experience of pregnancy.

If you are within the first 18 weeks of pregnancy, RMIT University in collaboration with the Parenting Research Centre invite you to complete a confidential questionnaire about your health habits and weight gain during pregnancy.

This paper-and-pencil survey will consider factors that influence women's health habits including stress, body image, and attitudes toward eating. During the second half of your pregnancy, you'll be asked to complete a similar survey.

This research is being run by Jessica Tata (Doctor of Psychology
candidate) and is supervised by Dr Leah Brennan and Associate Professor Jan Matthews. It has been approved by the RMIT University Human Research Ethics Committee and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

If you are interested or would like to participate, please contact Jessica at jessica.tata@rmit.edu.au or phone the Parenting Research Centre on (03) 8660 3500

Investigating Parental Feeding Styles

Are you a parent of a 2-5 years old child?

If so, you are invited to complete a confidential anonymous questionnaire which explores parental feeding styles. The questionnaire is written in a plain, simple language and contains questions regarding parent feeding child eating and child weight as well as general child behaviours and parental strategies that might influence the child feeding context.

Questionnaires take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The results of this study aid education of effective parental feeding styles and prevention of overweight in our children.

This project is being conducted through Monash University by Irina Moroshko as part of her Honours of Psychology Degree, under the supervision of Dr. Leah Brennan.   This project has ethics approval through Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee as well as through Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

If you are interested in participating and/or would like further information, please click here or email vaisman.irit@gmail.com for a hard copy.

Thank you for your time and interest.

Caring for someone with an eating disorder: Different perspectives

Recovery from an eating disorder is not easy; for the person recovering as well as those are supporting them. But we know very little about how similar the person and carer's views are. You can help us learn more by being a part of our research project which involves both those recovering from an eating disorder and their carer separately filling in a short confidential online questionnaire.

If you are interested in taking part remember you both carers, and the person recovering from an eating disorder will each complete a questionnaire.

If you are interested and would like to take part, please go to the following website:

Alternatively, if you would prefer paper-based questionnaires please email me at kcoomber@deakin.edu.au, or phone me on (03) 5227 8436.

The Experiences of Mothers with an Adolescent Daughter with Anorexia Nervosa Treated via the Maudsley Approach

The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of mothers who have/had an adolescent daughter diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and are seeking or have sought treatment via the Maudsley Approach. I am conducting this research to understand the changes you experienced in your lives as a result of your daughter having anorexia nervosa, and how you have coped with these changes.

The study involves semi-structured interviews with mothers who have/had an adolescent daughter diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. The interview is anticipated to go for approximately an hour and will be audio taped. Should it take longer than this, it is possible to organise another time at a later date to continue the interview if desired.
