Risk Factors
There is no one cause or risk factor which is responsible for a person developing an eating disorder. Each situation is subject to different internal and environmental factors which may contribute to the development of disordered eating behaviours. The most crucial concept to note is that an eating disorder is NOT about food – it is a coping mechanism for an individual who is struggling with aspects of their inner or outer world in which they feel they have no control.
